My Medicine (Original Framed)

This piece is a part of my Chronic Pain Series, which brings awareness to the struggles and battles those with chronic illness have to overcome. “My Medicine” shows a hand holding a weed flower in a hazy and foggy background. The hazy background represents the idea of “brain fog,” which can mean a forgetful, slowed, and tired out brain feeling. It basically feels like your brain is “out of commission” so to speak. The hand is striped with a black and colorful pattern to convey the idea of being caged in your own body; as those who are always in pain just want to feel normal again. The colors on the hand represent the different levels of pain someone endures on a daily basis. The weed flower is centered and lifted up high to portray its importance in the healing process, specifically for me. Weed has helped me regulate my emotions, mood, and overall pain. I would feel more relaxed and calm which helped my body feel comfortable and at ease with the pain for a short while. This is why I consider it, My Medicine.
