Self-Reflection (Original Framed)

This piece is a part of my Chronic Pain Series, which brings awareness to the struggles and battles those with chronic illnesses have to overcome. “Self-Reflection” is the first piece in this series. It tells the story of how I personally feel about my chronic illness and how it has affected my health. The stripes on my body represent a cage. The feeling of being trapped in a physical body that does not match my level of ambition or the true strength I have. The transition of colors convey the varying levels of pain I endure each day. Some days are better than others and some days are not so great. Chronic pain creates the instability of not knowing how I will feel each day, so I have to be patient and work with what I’ve got. And last but not least, the background shows a blend and flow of random colors. This symbolizes brain fog, where the mind becomes fuzzy and one loses the ability to focus, experiencing memory issues, and overall slowed thinking. I hope this piece shows you that even in a state of pain, we are strong enough to rebuild ourselves, to overcome, and not succumb to these events, but to create something beautiful out of it no matter what it is 💚
